Community Groups

Shipston has an active community, and a range of clubs and societies can be found on Shipston Town Council’s website.

Rotary members are enthusiastic, fun-loving and active volunteers who give their time and talents to serve communities both at home and overseas. These are dedicated people, men and women from business and professions, who share a common interest in helping others. Shipston Rotary is a dual gender Club and takes great pleasure in welcoming all new members. They meet every Tuesday at the Halford Bridge Hotel 7.30pm for 8pm

The Shipston Proms is organised by a committee of volunteers who aim to bring the community a varied and exciting programme of music. They usually meet on the third Wednesday at 7.30pm at the White Bear. As well as committee members meeting once a month, the Proms also have a group of volunteers that assist during the Proms fortnight.

Stour Health and Wellbeing Partnership form strategic partnerships with a wide range of public and voluntary organisations and we are working collaboratively to help improve the health and wellbeing of all residents in the Stour area.

Stour Valley Lions, based in Shipston on Stour, are a group of like minded people trying to make life a little better for those less fortunate than themselves with activities which cover the Stour Valley Area. They meet at the George Hotel, Shipston on Stour monthly on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7-30 p.m. to plan activities, including social events, and welcome like minded individuals, either male or female, who are prepared to put a little back into the community.

Warwickshire's leading local independent conservation organisation. Their mission is to bring people closer to nature and create a land rich in wildlife. WWT support Shipston Town Council with advice regarding Cornmill Meadow. The area has been declared a Local Wildlife Site, and, over time, Shipston Town Council hope to develop a wildflower meadow, a community orchard, a bug hotel and a new area of woodland, amongst other activities which will increase the biodiversity of the area.

The Shipston-on-Stour District Local History Society is a voluntary, charitable organisation formed to collect, preserve and display, in Shipston Museum, any item which furthers knowledge of local history. The Society provide talks, displays and information to organisations, individuals & schools.

The Warwick County Record Office collects, preserves and makes available the historic records of Warwickshire and its people.

Local Government

The Town Council is an elected body of 13 councillors, including a Mayor and Deputy Mayor, who are supported by a Town Clerk and an assistant. It is the first tier of government, providing support and services on behalf of the residents of Shipston. Responsibilities include: the upkeep of seven play areas, duties as a Burial Authority looking after the cemetery grounds, the chapels and the administration of burial records, acting as consultee on planning applications, providing allotment gardens, and delegated responsibility for maintaining grass verges and town cleansing.
